It’s Official Glenn Frey’s Son to Join the Eagles Says Don Henley

It’s Official Glenn Frey’s Son to Join the Eagles
Chuck Nowlin of Boston’s classic rock station WZLX caught up with Don Henley of the Eagles yesterday and said that there would be a big 70th birthday bash for him in Dallas with Joe [Walsh] and Timothy [B. Schmit] and [Stevie] Nicks where they will sing their hit duet “Leather and Lace.”

The real question was who would sings the late Glenn Frey’s vocals at the big Classic East and Classic West music festivals this summer. Yesterday all he told Nowlin was it would be someone in the Eagles’ family but he did come out and tell Dallas radio station KTCK that, like rumors suggested, Frey’s son Deacon would try to fill those big shoes.

Henley said, “There’s going to be an official announcement in a few days but let’s just do it here. Glenn’s son Deacon is a very talented young man, and he seems to be up for the task. He’s enthusiastic about it and he’s been working real hard on it, and he’s gonna do it with us. I think that’s appropriate.”

The drummer/singer described “an old system both in Eastern and Western culture called the guild system, where the father is the master and the son is the apprentice. The trade, the craft, the business is handed down from father to son. I think it’s the only appropriate way to carry on. I don’t think I’d do it otherwise. Since it’s Glenn’s blood, it’s his son, I think that’s appropriate. There’ll be one more musician along for the ride too, but I’m not gonna say who that is.”

The first two shows – since there could be more are at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles on July 15-16 and Citi Field on July 29-30 in New York.

Gram Parsons & Emmylou Harris – Hearts on Fire

Gram Parsons & Emmylou Harris – Hearts on Fire……… In 1971, Gram met Emmylou Harris. He asked her out to California to do harmonies on his first solo album, “GP”, for Warner Bros. Also recruited for the album were three members of Elvis Presleys band, James Burton, Glen D Hardin and Ronnie Tutt. Barry Tashian was enlisted as well. Burton, Hardin and Tashian would all go on to be members of Emmylous famous Hot Band.
1973 found Gram, Emmylou and the Fallen Angels touring the U.S. and recording “Grievous Angel.”
September 19, 1973, while on vacation, Gram died in a motel in Joshua Tree, CA, a hauntingly beautiful part of the Mojave/Sonoran Deserts. The coroner ruled “natural causes.” Phil Kaufman stole the body and burned it in the Joshua Tree National Monument, fulfilling a pact that he and Gram had made.
In January 1974, Grievous Angel was released.
The long list of musicians Gram Parson influenced includes but is not limited to Elvis Costello, U2, Rodney Crowell, Dave Edmunds, The Jayhawks, Marty Stuart, Black Crowes, The Lemonheads, Nick Lowe, Uncle Tupelo, Son Volt, Tom Petty, The Eagles, The Rolling Stones and of course, Emmylou Harris, who carried his musical vision to fruition and beyond.
Why Gram Parsons never achieved too much fame in his lifetime and to many it is a mystery. His songwriting, voice and his choice of musicians was a winning combination. Even in death, he was eclipsed by Jim Croce (of “Bad Bad Leroy Brown” fame), who died the day after Gram and received the media attention that still eluded Parsons.
